Motherhood is beautiful, exhausting, and full-on. Between carrying kids, running errands, and somehow managing to keep everything together, our bodies take on a lot—often without us even realising it. But here’s the thing: we don’t have to accept the aches, the sluggishness, or the feeling of being stretched in a million directions.

Enter Reformer Pilates—a workout that strengthens your body and helps you reclaim your energy, posture, and confidence. It’s like a spa treatment for your muscles—but with the bonus of getting stronger, leaner, and more flexible.

If you’ve ever wondered what Reformer Pilates is and why so many mums swear by it, this blog is for you. Let’s dive in!

Introduction: Roz, tell me about yourself, your personality, and your passion. How do you serve yourself? Also, how do you serve the community?

A little about Roz, a Mum to two amazing kids who challenged me along the way.

I have been in Australia for 16 years, where my Pilates journey began. I got into Fitness in my late twenties and early 30s, starting with step classes and running. When we moved to Florida because of my husband's work, I became a regular at the Navy gym and fell into teaching and eventually running their Spinning program, and so it began!

When we moved to Australia, I worked at Fitness First as an instructor, then as a Group fitness manager, which introduced me to Pilates. Fast forward a few years, and a friend introduced me to the Reformer Pilates. I loved it from the start, the challenge, yes, but it was more than that. It's a different type of strength training that helps you through all the functional movements for daily life and all-important injury prevention when running, cycling, surfing, etc.

I wish I had started my own journey sooner. I love teaching it because it's incredibly rewarding watching someone complete an exercise for the first time, or if they can stand taller, you can't put a price on that.

10 Questions for Roz

1.      What Makes a Game-Changer for Mums?

Mums are constantly multitasking and on the go! How does Reformer Pilates help them feel stronger, more energised, and less stressed daily?

There are so many benefits for new mums and pregnant women, particularly when their bodies change constantly. The Reformer Pilates allows for various exercises that can be modified for all levels. It improves posture and alignment, flexibility and joint mobility, and mental wellbeing. All of these are so important to Mums, juggling many activities daily.

2.      Core Strength = Mum Superpower!

From lifting kids to carrying endless grocery bags, mums rely on their core more than they realise. How does Reformer Pilates specifically target and strengthen the core in a way that benefits everyday movements?

Core Strength is a superpower; it's a foundation for nearly all physical movement, stabilising your spine, enhancing your balance and coordination, making everyday activities easier, and supporting daily functions from lifting the shopping or kids to simply standing. A strong core makes your body move more efficiently and resilient

3.      Say Goodbye to Aches and Pains

Many mums struggle with back pain, tight shoulders, and poor posture (thanks to hours of baby-carrying and screen time). How does Reformer Pilates help correct posture and relieve tension in the body?

Reformer Pilates helps Mums manage aches and pains by strengthening the core muscles, improving posture, and increasing flexibility and mobility. It can also be modified for any level and assist with rehabilitation when recovering from injuries.

4.      Is Reformer Pilates Suitable for All Mums?

Some mums might feel intimidated by the machines—especially if they haven’t exercised. What would you say to a mum who’s hesitant to try it?

Absolutely, for all the reasons I have already mentioned. I love seeing mums in my class.

5.      The Ultimate Energy Booster

Mums are often exhausted before the day even starts! Can Reformer Pilates help improve energy levels, and if so, how?

The Ultimate energy booster—Oh, there are so many reasons for this improved circulation and stress reduction. This is a big one for a lot of clients; like other forms of exercise, there is the endorphin release, enhanced posture and alignment. The Reformer Pilates optimises body mechanics, reducing unnecessary strain and conserving energy throughout the day. Deep core engagement. Pilates helps you feel revitalised in your body and mind.

6. Confidence & Strength Beyond the Studio

Have you seen a transformation in a mum (physically or mentally) that really stuck with you? What changed for her, and how did Pilates play a role?

Confidence and strength beyond the studio—this is important. It's not about how we feel about ourselves as women; it's how we feel when our posture is better, and we feel stronger. Your whole body responds when you stand straighter; your muscles work efficiently, and you move better and more efficiently throughout your day. When I finish a class, I leave with a smile and move so much better.

7. Reformer Pilates vs. Other Workouts—What’s the Magic?

There are so many fitness options. What makes Reformer Pilates stand out compared to yoga, weight training, or HIIT workouts?

Reformer Pilates versus other workouts - What's the magic - Honestly, I don't think reformer replaces other forms of exercise. It compliments anyone's training plan. From beginner to athlete, everyone benefits.  It has been one of the best forms of exercise I could have introduced to my day. It's injury prevention, its core strengthening, improving my posture and moving more efficiently, activating every muscle.

8. The Funniest or Most Memorable Moment in a Class

Mums love a good laugh! What’s a funny or heartwarming moment you’ve experienced while teaching Reformer Pilates?

The funniest, most memorable moment in class—Mmm, most memorable was definitely when a client told me she could now bend down to put her undies on. So cool!! The funniest was in a class that introduced a core routine, and I caught a client rolling their eyes as if to say, "Seriously!" They looked so guilty when I caught them.

9. Your #1 Piece of Advice for Mums Starting Their Pilates Journey

If a mum is on the fence about trying Reformer Pilates, what’s the one thing you’d love her to know?

My advice for mums starting their Pilates journey is to embrace it, remember it takes time, and not compare yourself to anyone else. You are amazing, and the hardest part is walking through the studio door and committing yourself. I promise once you start you will never look back and try lots of different classes, find the one that suits you, but you enjoy too!

10. Something I Wish People Knew About Me?

Something I wish people knew about me—I love a challenge, and my mum gave me the best piece of advice: "There is no such word as can't." This advice has driven me to try so many things throughout my life, and I am eternally grateful to have had such a strong and amazing woman as my mum.

What Makes Reformer Pilates a Game-Changer for Mums?

Think of Reformer Pilates as the ultimate multitasking workout—just like you! It strengthens your core, improves flexibility, corrects posture, and boosts energy—all in one session. Unlike high-impact workouts, it’s gentle on the joints but incredibly effective for toning, strengthening, and restoring balance in the body.

Here’s what makes it perfect for mums:

✅ Strengthens your core (so you can carry your toddler and 10 grocery bags without sweat!)

✅ Improves posture (no more mum-hunch from carrying babies or breastfeeding!)

✅ Boosts energy levels (so you’re not running on caffeine alone)

✅ Reduces stress and tension (hello, deep breaths and relaxation!)

✅ Helps prevent injury (because let’s be honest bending down to pick up toys 100 times a day is a workout!)
